Do I have to use FrontPage?
No. You can use a simple text editor or another type of HTML editor.
Do I have to pay for FrontPage extensions to use FrontPage?
No. We install FrontPage 98 & 2000 extensions at no additional cost.
NOTE about FrontPage: when your server is equipped with FrontPage
Server Extensions, it is not necessary to use the FrontPage Web Publishing
Wizard to post your Web pages to your server. Simply use the File/Copy Web
command in the FrontPage Explorer and your information will be copied
automatically to your hosting server.
I want to use FrontPage. How do I set it up for my account?
Simply request FrontPage when you sign up.
I am running into a lot of problems with the FrontPage extensions. I
am editing the files on my computer and then uploading them through FTP.
What am I doing wrong?
A site created with FrontPage should NOT be uploaded through FTP or some of
the features will not work.
Please be aware that FrontPage maintains index and configuration files on
the remote site. If you add web pages to the site with plain FTP, the
changes will not be recorded, and FrontPage may begin to function abnormally
thereafter. It is recommended that you use only FrontPage to modify a
FrontPage site.
Here is the correct way to do it:
- Connect to the Internet
- Start FrontPage (Explorer). The getting started window will pop up
- Select "Open FrontPage Web
- Click "More Webs..."
- Type the name of your domain in the box entitled "Select a Web server
or disk location", for instance your-domain.com
- Click "List Webs", select the "Root Web" or the web you wish to edit,
then input the username and password for your account
- You can now start creating your site by using the example webs or by
creating new pages yourself
Note: If you follow the above process, the "Publish FrontPage
Web..." option is not required. The site is saved and updated automatically
on the Web Server when changes are made.
There are unknown files and directories in my account. Can I delete them?
If you log in to your site with plain FTP and find some directories (for
example, _vti* ) and files (for example, .htaccess ) that you did not
upload, do not delete them. They belong there, and you will damage the
FrontPage extensions if you remove them.
My FrontPage Web Site is generating error messages and cannot find
certain pages. How do I fix this?
Open your FrontPage Web click on the Tools Menu and select "Re-calculate
Hyperlinks"
I already have the files for my site in a directory on my hard disk.
How do I upload them? With an FTP program?
If you are using a FrontPage Web, you should NOT have to use an FTP program
at all. To upload files from your hard disk, open your web as described at
here, then go to File, "Import..." from the pull-down menu in FrontPage
(Explorer). Click on the "Add File" button to add files from your hard disk.
How do I publish my FrontPage Web Site to my Globalmillenniamarketing
account?
You only have to publish your FrontPage Web if you are creating the site
offline using the personal web server. If you are creating/editing your site
while connected to the Internet, follow the instructions above.
If you are have created your Web Site offline, follow these steps to
publish it on your Web Server:
- In FrontPage (Explorer), click on the File menu and select "Publish
FrontPage Web..." Check the "Publish changed pages only" box if you are
re-publishing a FrontPage web.
- This will only send pages that have been edited since the last time
you published the FrontPage Web. Check the "Include child webs" button to
publish all child webs within the Root Web Site.
- This option only appears if you are publishing a "Root Web". For the
"Publish FrontPage Web to:" field either select the destination Web Server
from the list or click on "More Webs...". If you clicked "More Webs...",
type in location of the Web Server in the field entitled "Please specify
the location to which you want to publish your FrontPage web:".
- Make sure you type http:// before your domain; omission of the http://
prefix has caused problems in the past. Click OK, and wait for FrontPage
to upload the new Web Site to the Web Server. Open up your browser and
view your new FrontPage Web Site.
While we do support the FrontPage extensions on our site, we regret we do
not offer assistance for questions related to the operation of the FrontPage
program itself for web sites not designed by ourselves.
If your question is related to our hosting service, an example of this
would be if the FrontPage extensions in your account became corrupted,
please do contact us if the question is not answered in this page, otherwise
please consider visiting the Microsoft Support site and/or contacting the
Microsoft Technical Support at the numbers listed in your FrontPage manual.
